The Black Crows Trios Freebird is a three-piece telescoping pole designed for ski touring and freeriding: The upper and middle sections are made of carbon, the lower section of 7075 aluminum; it’s adjustable from 110 to 140 cm and collapses to 68 cm so it can be stowed on your backpack during ascents with crampons or on descents. The Powerlock 3.0 lock holds securely even under load; the 28-cm-long EVA grip allows you to reposition your grip during traverses; and the flexible 90-mm basket adapts to the terrain. 260 g per pole, color: Black/Blue.
Black Crows Trios Freebird: lightweight telescoping pole for ski touring and freeriding
A trekking pole must do three things: be lightweight, adjust quickly and securely, and fold down short enough to fit in a backpack. The Trios Freebird achieves this with three segments: The 18-mm carbon upper tube and the 16-mm carbon middle tube save weight, while the aluminum lower tube absorbs impacts from rocks and sharp edges. You can open the two Powerlock 3.0 clamps while wearing gloves and tighten them with a single lever press, ensuring the length remains constant under load. The long EVA foam handle provides a secure grip on the slope side, while the ergonomic loop distributes pressure across the back of the hand. The carbide tip holds firm even on rock and ice, and the top cap is made of reinforced, anodized aluminum.

How do I adjust the length?
Open the Powerlock lever, extend the shaft to the desired length, and close the lever. As a general guideline: When ascending, your forearm should be horizontal when you hold the pole vertically beside you; when descending, the pole should be shorter; when traversing, it should be shorter on the uphill side and longer on the downhill side.
Does the lock hold up under load?
Yes, the Powerlock 3.0 is an external clamp that doesn’t slip. If the clamping force weakens over time, you can tighten the screw on the lever.
Does the pole fit in the backpack?
Yes, with a packed length of 68 cm, it fits into the pole holder or on the side under the compression straps.
Are the baskets interchangeable?
Yes, the 90-mm baskets can be unscrewed and replaced with smaller summer baskets.
