Product Information "Vola Workshop File 300 mm File"
The Vola 300 mm file is the long workshop file for pre-sharpening ski edges: 300 mm in length for long, smooth strokes across the entire edge, a coarse cut that quickly removes material, and a width that fits into standard file holders and edge angles. This is the file used in ski service to restore dull or damaged edges to the proper angle before the fine file and diamond stone finish the job. Comes in the red Vola protective sleeve.
Vola 300 mm File: Coarse grit for preliminary edge grinding
When sharpening edges, the cut of the file determines how much steel is removed per stroke. The 300 mm file from Vola has a coarse cut, making it the tool of choice for the first step: When the edge is nicked after hitting a rock, when it’s rounded and dull after a season, or when you want to adjust the edge angle—for example, from 89 to 88 degrees. The LANGE file has two advantages over shorter models: It contacts the edge over a larger surface area, which keeps the angle stable and prevents wobbling, and it removes more material per stroke because more teeth are engaged. After the initial filing, use the fine file for fine-tuning and the diamond stone for the final finish and deburring.

Application
Clamp the file into the side angle or file holder, secure the ski or board in the clamp, and file the edge with light pressure in the direction of travel from the tip to the tail—always in the same direction, never back and forth. Mark the edge with a felt-tip pen: Once the ink is gone along the entire length, the angle is set correctly. Then finish with a fine file, remove the burr with a diamond stone, and slightly round off the edge at the tip and tail. Clean the file with a file brush after use and store it dry in its case.
Uses
For ski service shops, clubs, racers, and anyone who maintains their own edges—not just resharpening them. For simple resharpening between ski trips, a fine file or a diamond stone is sufficient; the coarse 300 mm file is for cases where material really needs to be removed.
Is the file coarse or fine?
Coarse. It’s intended for rough grinding and removes material quickly. For the finish, you’ll also need a fine file or a diamond stone.
Do I need a file holder?
For clean angles, yes. You can’t maintain the edge angle freehand. The file fits standard side angle and edge angle clamping systems, such as those from Toko or Vola.
Why 300 mm and not 200 mm?
The long file provides a more stable grip, holds the angle better, and works faster. It’s the better choice for the workshop and for regular edge sharpening; the 200 mm file is more convenient for carrying in a backpack.
How long does the file last?
Depending on usage, it will last several seasons. It’s important to always file in one direction, keep the file clean, and avoid dragging it over edges with stone chips until they’ve been smoothed out with a diamond stone—otherwise, it will dull the file.
Is it suitable for snowboards?
Yes, snowboard edges are filed using the same file and the same angles.
