Product Information "Ortovox Probe 240 Avalanche Probe 240 cm Silver"
The Ortovox Probe 240 is a 240-cm-long avalanche probe made of 7075 aluminum, weighing 240 grams, featuring the PFA quick-deployment system: open the case, swing out the probe, pull the tension cord, and the probe is ready for use. Weighing 240 grams, it’s one of the lightest probes from Ortovox and the right choice for beginners and anyone who counts every gram. The depth marker at 1.5 meters lets you know immediately whether you can still reach the buried person with your shovel or if you need to probe deeper into the snow.
Ortovox Probe 240: Avalanche probe with PFA quick-deployment system for searching for buried victims
After the fine search with the avalanche transceiver, the probe is the tool that pinpoints the buried person’s exact location. Starting from the smallest distance reading, probe in a spiral pattern at 25 cm intervals until the probe tip encounters resistance. Then the probe will get stuck, and you can start shoveling. For this, the probe must be able to do two things: be set up in seconds and remain stable even in hard, compacted avalanche snow. Ortovox ’s PFA system secures the segments with a steel cable that you tighten with a single pull. The segments fit securely, the probe remains rigid, and it can be quickly folded back up after use.

Intended Use
For ski touring, freeriding, and snowshoeing. The probe, along with an avalanche transceiver and a shovel, is mandatory equipment off-piste. Practice setting it up at home so you can do it automatically in an emergency.
What length do I need?
For most tours, 240 cm is sufficient. Longer probes measuring 320 cm are intended for deep snow and for professionals who regularly use a probe, and they help when the buried person is deep underground.
How quickly is the probe ready for use?
With the PFA system, it takes just a few seconds: swing out the probe, pull on the handle—done. You can set it up even while wearing gloves.
How do I care for the probe?
After use, let it dry, check the tension cord for damage, and store the probe in the included sheath.
Is the probe enough on its own?
No. You always need a combination of an avalanche transceiver, a shovel, and a probe. Without an avalanche transceiver, you won’t be able to locate the area; without a shovel, you won’t be able to reach the buried person.
