Socks are the item of clothing where you save the most money—and notice it the fastest. In ski boots, the wrong sock means cold toes and pressure points; when running, it means blisters. That’s why we don’t carry packs of ten cotton socks here, but rather socks, that are knitted for a specific purpose.
Socks for skiing, sports, and everyday wear
The majority comes from Falke, plus Dynafit for hiking, UYN and Therm-ic for ski boots, and XPOOOS, American Socks, and MARCMARCS for the days when you’re not on the mountain.
The Right Sock for the Job
√ Ski socks are thin, high-cut, and padded only on the shin and the top of the foot—thicker socks mean colder feet in ski boots, not warmer
√ Sports socks for running and biking fit snugly, wick away moisture, and have reinforced heels
√ Everyday socks can contain cotton, but it has no place in sports because it stays wet
√ Heated socks are the solution if you still get cold—you can find them separately
Why thick socks in ski boots cause cold feet
Your ski boot is tailored to your foot, not to padding. A thick sock fills the space, compresses the blood vessels, and reduces blood flow to the foot. That’s exactly what makes your foot feel cold. A thin ski sock with targeted padding is almost always warmer than a wool sock from your hiking closet.
Frequently Asked Questions About Socks
How thick should a ski sock be?
As thin as possible. They should wick away moisture and provide protection for the shin and top of the foot, but not fill out the shoe.
Two pairs of socks layered inside a ski boot?
No. Two layers will shift against each other, causing blisters, and your foot will have less room. One good pair of socks is better than two mediocre ones.
How do I wash performance socks?
Wash at 40 degrees without fabric softener. Fabric softener coats the fibers and robs them of their ability to wick away moisture.
What size should I choose?
The sock should fit without wrinkles. If in doubt, choose the smaller size—it will stretch. A sock that’s too big will wrinkle, and that’s exactly where pressure points form.
