Without ski skins no ski tour. They’re the component that determines whether you’ll have a relaxed ascent or a slippery slide—and the only one that has to fit your skis exactly. That’s exactly why we cut them to size here, instead of selling you a one-size-fits-all product.
Custom-cut ski skins
All colltex Skins are precisely cut to fit your ski model. The database includes over 5,000 models and is constantly growing. You tell us which skis you use, and we’ll take care of the rest. We also carry pre-cut skins from Pomoca and Dynafit that you can pick up directly from our warehouse.
Mohair, blended fur, or synthetic
√ Mohair glides best and is the lightest, but wears out faster—the choice for long tours and races
√ Blended skins made of mohair and nylon are the best compromise for most people: good glide, decent durability
√ Pure nylon lasts the longest and provides the best grip on steep slopes, but it’s harder to glide on
√ Splitboard skins require a specific width and attachment system; you’ll find these in the splitboard skins section
Proper Care of Ski Skins
Ski skins don’t like getting wet in your backpack. Let them dry at room temperature at home—never on a heater. If the adhesive weakens or the skin absorbs water, ski skin wax or a waterproofing treatment can help—you’ll find both in the ski skin care section. A freshly coated skin is significantly cheaper than a new one.
Frequently Asked Questions About Ski Skins
How do I find the right skin width?
The skin is cut to the waist width of your ski and must not cover the edges. Just tell us your ski model and length, and we’ll make sure it fits—with custom cutting, you don’t have to measure anything yourself.
How long do ski skins last?
Depending on the material and elevation gain, three to seven seasons. It’s usually not the skin itself that fails, but the adhesive. The adhesive can be reapplied.
What should I do if the skin comes off during the ascent?
Most of the time, snow or moisture between the skin and the base is to blame. Wipe down the base, press the skin on while it’s dry, starting at the tip. If it no longer holds permanently, the adhesive needs to be refreshed.
Can I also use skins for snowshoe hikes?
No, ski skins belong under the skis. For snowshoes, the crampons and the spikes on the frame provide traction.
