The Mountain Studio Z-2 EPE GORE-TEX Shell Jacket for Men, Smoked Paprika

The The Mountain Studio Z-2 EPE is the hardshell ski jacket for freeriding, backcountry adventures, and tough days on the slopes. The three-layer GORE-TEX ePE membrane is manufactured without added PFAS, features a 30,000 mm water column and 30,000 g/m²/24h, making it completely waterproof and windproof. It features a soft flannel lining that remains comfortable even after eight hours on the mountain. The color “Smoked Paprika” is new to the 2026/27 collection.

The 80-denier outer fabric is made from 100 percent recycled polyamide and can withstand ski edges, backpack straps, and lift bars. All seams are taped, the zippers are waterproof (YKK Aquaguard), and the DWR finish is PFAS-free. The helmet-compatible storm hood features an integrated visor and can be adjusted with one hand using the Cohaesive drawcord system. The high-reach sleeve construction and ergonomically shaped elbows provide freedom of movement when using poles and during ascents.

Gear for the slopes and off-piste

Two chest pockets, two hand pockets, one zippered inner pocket, and the ski pass pocket on the left sleeve hold everything you need for the mountain. Underarm ventilation zippers quickly dump heat while hiking; the powder skirt keeps snow out; and Lycra cuffs with Velcro closures on the sleeves seal neatly over or under gloves. The jacket isn’t insulated—it’s a pure shell: in winter, wear a midlayer like the M-9 underneath; in spring, a baselayer is enough.

Who is the Z-2 EPE designed for?

For skiers and snowboarders who head out in any weather, hit the backcountry, and go on ski tours—and want a jacket that stays lightweight yet keeps everything out. Those who prefer a warm jacket without a layering system are better off with the insulated S-8 or the Z-5 hybrid jacket. The matching pants are the Y-1 EPE, made from the same material.

Care

Wash at 40 degrees or cold, inside out, separately, and with zippers closed. Use mild detergent; do not use fabric softener, bleach, or dry cleaning. Iron at a low temperature and tumble dry on low heat.
