Black is the standard choice because the vast majority of bases are dark. Only for light or clear bases do you use the transparent version. Technically, both are identical; it is purely about the appearance of the repaired spot.
How to proceed
Clean and dry the damaged spot, light the candle, let it burn briefly, and drip the plastic into the groove. Slightly overfill, let it cool, then level it with a blade and sand it lightly. If the damage goes all the way to the core, have the ski checked at the workshop.
