Liquid wax is the answer to the question of why you should spend another hour in the workshop the night before a day on the slopes. Apply it, let it dry briefly, buff it out—done. No iron, no scraping, no wax residue on the floor.
Toko Liquid wax for quick maintenance
Most of the products are available at Toko, along with individual products from Holmenkol and SWIX. The application takes just a few minutes and can even be done on the mountain between runs.
When liquid wax is enough—and when it isn’t
√ Ideal for occasional use and quick touch-ups
√ Before a race for a few extra tenths: good
√ As the only maintenance throughout the entire season: that’s not enough—the base needs hot wax every now and then
√ On a dry, gray base: clean it first, otherwise the product won’t absorb
Frequently Asked Questions About Liquid Wax
How long does liquid wax last?
Depending on the snow, it lasts one to three days of skiing. With artificial snow and aggressive spring firn, it tends to last a bit less.
Does it replace hot waxing?
No. Hot wax penetrates the base and nourishes it, while liquid wax mainly sits on top. You should still iron your skis once or twice per season.
How long does it take to dry?
Two to ten minutes, depending on the product. Then polish it out with a brush; otherwise, the layer will slow you down instead of letting you glide.
Can I use it on a snowboard?
Yes, a base is a base. The application is the same—you just need a little more product for the larger surface area.
