The Mountain Studio Z-5 3L Hybrid Shell Jacket for Men, Otter Grenadine

The The Mountain Studio Z-5 is a hybrid jacket: on the outside, a waterproof ALP-3 stretch shell with a 30,000 mm water column; on the inside, lightweight PrimaLoft insulation—40 g in the body and 20 g in the sleeves. This makes it warmer than a shell-only jacket, yet significantly lighter and more flexible than a classic insulated ski jacket. Otter Grenadine is the warm brown “Otter” color with a red grenadine stripe across the hood and back.

The 40-denier outer fabric, made of 85 percent nylon and 15 percent spandex, stretches in all directions; the seams are fully taped, and the DWR treatment is PFAS-free. The helmet-compatible storm hood with an integrated visor is adjustable via a drawcord; the high-reach sleeves and ergonomic elbows allow for pole use and opening bindings without restriction. Ventilation zippers under the arms help regulate temperature while hiking or on sunny afternoons.

Two chest pockets, two hand pockets, two interior pockets, and a ski pass pocket on the sleeve. The internal snow skirt keeps powder out, and the Lycra cuffs and Velcro fasteners on the sleeves sit either under or over the gloves. Signature sidecut on the hem and sleeves; repair kit included.

Who is the Z-5 designed for?

For on-piste skiers and freeriders who don’t want to freeze on the lift in the morning but don’t want to lug around a thick jacket in the afternoon or while hiking. On very cold days, wear a midlayer underneath; in mild weather, a baselayer is enough.

Care

Wash at 40 degrees or cold, inside out, separately, and with zippers closed. Use mild detergent; do not use fabric softener, bleach, or dry cleaning. Iron at a low temperature and tumble dry on low heat.
