Handcrafted in Åre, grown rather than cast
Instead of factory-made aluminum or carbon, KANG uses organic bamboo, which is handcrafted into ski poles in its own workshop in Åre. Depending on the model, the poles are between 16 and 22 mm thick and taper slightly toward the bottom, just as the natural shape of the bamboo stalk dictates. Because every stalk grows differently, the weight and grain vary slightly from pole to pole—a 120-cm-long pole weighs on average about 245 to 255 grams, depending on the model and the natural thickness of the material. Bamboo is also considered one of the most renewable materials of all: It sequesters CO₂ as it grows, requires hardly any water or fertilizer, and is ready for harvest again after just a few years. For KANG, this isn’t just an external marketing pitch, but the very reason the brand was founded in the first place—sustainable materials that can still hold their own in deep snow.

The KANG Bamboo All-Mountain ski poles are designed for everything that happens between valley runs and spontaneous powder excursions. The 55-mm basket ensures a secure grip on hard surfaces, while the slightly tapered bamboo shaft provides enough flex to absorb falls and pole impacts without splintering. The Classic KANG grip sits securely in your hand even when wearing gloves, and the Easy-Adjust strap can be opened and closed in seconds. The poles are available in lengths from 105 to 135 cm, so there’s a suitable option for most body heights. According to the manufacturer, bamboo can withstand a tensile force of up to 90 kg and is considered significantly more impact-resistant than comparable aluminum poles, without breaking as brittle as some carbon models do under heavy loads.

Behind KANG is a small team in Åre that crafts its ski poles by hand in its own workshop, rather than on an assembly line. Because no two bamboo stalks grow exactly alike, each blank is individually inspected, cut to size, and fitted with a grip, basket, and tip before it makes its way to you. This close involvement in production allows KANG to precisely control which materials are used and under what conditions work is carried out, rather than anonymously outsourcing manufacturing. In addition to bamboo, the brand is increasingly relying on recycled aluminum for other models—which produces up to 80 percent fewer emissions than virgin material—as well as recyclable plastics for the grip and strap. The stated goal is production that is as circular as possible—a path that, according to KANG, is still in its early stages but one that the brand is consistently pursuing.
