A good water bottle is something you only notice when it’s missing. On the mountain, because the water shouldn’t freeze after two hours in your backpack. At the office, because it shouldn’t smell like stale tea. That’s exactly what this selection is for.
Insulated bottles and sports bottles
Most of our selection consists Chillys double-walled stainless steel bottles that keep cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot. There are also lightweight sports bottles from Dynafit for anyone who counts every gram.
Stainless steel or plastic?
√ Double-walled stainless steel insulates, is tasteless, and can withstand drops—but it’s heavier
√ Plastic is lightweight and inexpensive, but it doesn’t insulate and absorbs odors over time
√ For a day of skiing, insulation is almost a must in your backpack; otherwise, you’ll have ice in your bottle by the afternoon
√ For running and biking, weight matters more than insulation
How long does the insulation really last?
With good double-walled bottles, they’ll stay warm for about twelve hours and cold for twenty-four hours—provided you fill them all the way. A half-empty bottle cools down much faster because the air inside carries the heat away. Preheating with hot water adds another hour.
Frequently Asked Questions About Water Bottles
Can the bottle go in the dishwasher?
Not with most insulated bottles. The heat can damage the coating and, in the worst case, the vacuum seal. Washing by hand with warm water and a brush is safer.
How do I get rid of odors?
Leave the bottle overnight with warm water and a spoonful of baking soda or baking powder, then rinse it out thoroughly. This works reliably for coffee and tea.
What should you put in your bottle when temperatures drop below freezing?
Bring hot tea instead of cold water, and pack the bottle inside your backpack. A drinking tube freezes at sub-zero temperatures, but a thermos bottle doesn’t.
What size makes sense?
500 ml for a day of skiing and the commute to work, 750 ml to 1 liter for hikes and long outings. Larger bottles often don’t fit in the side pocket of your backpack.
