Tips on how to become an even better skier.

The crux of speed. Before you venture into a steep slope, you should prepare yourself mentally for the situation. A high level of concentration and the necessary respect are important, whereas fear is out of place and prevents you from maintaining a safe and stable position on the ski. Training for the necessary technique takes place on flatter slopes.

In principle, the skiing technique on steep slopes is no different to that on flat terrain,

only a few special features need to be taken into account. The basic requirement for skiing on steep slopes is speed control. This is achieved by turning the skis quickly over the fall line and by constantly loading the outside of the skis. The steeper the slope, the higher the downhill forces. To counteract this, you have to steer the skis over the fall line as quickly as possible in order to have the skis "across" the slope again.

As the time available for this is so short in steep terrain, the movements must start from the legs in order to transfer the actions directly and quickly to the skis. The prerequisite for this is a central, slightly lower position above the ski in order to be ready to move at all times. Short relief, with a vertical movement of the legs when changing turns, the skis are briefly relieved, making them easier to turn.

The material can help us here in the form of a tip or tip-tail rocker, thanks to the shorter contact surface,

But be careful! The vertical movement must not be too massive, because the phase without pressure on the edge should be as short as possible. At slow speeds, this is not as pronounced as at sporty speeds. Finally, a few pro tips from me to make your steep slope skiing a moment of happiness: Start at a slow pace and only increase this bit by bit. It is very difficult to reduce your speed on steep terrain. Ski the turns far out of the fall line, this will give you a high braking effect. A wider ski stance leads to a larger standing surface and therefore more stability. In addition, the edge angle can be increased more easily by tilting your knees, as there is more space between your legs.
