SWIX is a Norwegian winter sports equipment company with headquarters in Lillehammer . The SWIX product range includes ski wax, ski poles and sportswear. The company was founded in Sweden in 1946 by Börje Gabrielsson , based on the experience of Swedish skier Martin Matsbo with ski wax . SWIX was the first manufacturer of modern ski wax and had a scientific approach to the challenge. The wax was color-coded by type, a practice that has since been adopted by the entire ski wax industry. Production took place in Skåne in Sweden and in Fjellhamar near Oslo in Norway.
