Head Ski Inventor "Howard Head"
For centuries, skis were simply skis and hardly changed.
Of course, the wood became more durable over time,
camber was invented, and the tips and ends became wider, but
that was basically it. Then one day in 1947, an airplane engineer named Howard Head went skiing for the first time ski.
And he was anything but enthusiastic. Howard was sure that there had to be a
way to make skis lighter, faster, and more comfortable. He set to work and created one
prototype after another for three years. Step by step, the HEAD ski saw the light of day.
With its plywood core, its aluminum sandwich panels, plastic sidewalls, and a continuous steel edge, it was a revolution on the slopes. Suddenly everyone could ski, and it was fun too. The rest is history.
